🏁  ABOUT GREAT RACE

The Trinidad & Tobago Great Race has been thrilling fans for over 50 years, making it one of the longest-running offshore powerboat races in the world. Featuring multiple speed classes, competitors battle not only for class victories but also for the prestigious title of fastest boat to Tobago.

🌊  THE COURSE

Spanning approximately 90 miles, the race begins in the Gulf of Paria, heading through the First Bocas and along Trinidad’s North Coast. Racers push into the iconic Maracas Bay, round the marker, then continue to Grande Riviere before making the open-water run to Tobago.

The final stretch brings crews into Store Bay, where they complete a lap before crossing the finish line.

🌪️ THE CHALLENGE

Each leg of the race delivers drastically different conditions—from calm Gulf waters to turbulent seas in the Bocas, heavy swells along the North Coast, and rough, shallow waters approaching Tobago.

This constant change tests both boat performance and crew skill, making The Great Race one of the most demanding offshore events anywhere.

💪  A TRUE ACHIEVEMENT

Simply finishing the race is a major accomplishment. Teams spend weeks preparing their boats, and crossing the finish line is a reward that reflects dedication, endurance, and precision.

🌍  WORLD RECORD STATUS

In 2018, The Great Race became a UIM-sanctioned event, introducing an official world record course of 80.5 miles.

The inaugural record was set by Motul Monster, a 46ft Skater Cat piloted by Peter Peake and Joey Sabeeny, with an incredible time of 47 minutes, 43 seconds—a benchmark that still stands today.
